Silk Press FAQ with Jalicia

Today we will be answering FAQ's about Silk Presses. We have many clients that ask similar questions, which means everyone has the same concerns. So in this post, we're going to get everyone on the same page.

Here Goes Nothing!!

Question 1: What is a silk press?

A Silk Press is simply just a shampoo, blow-dry and flat press. The silk press only temporarily straightens hair.

Question 2: Why is it called a Silk Press?

A Silk Press isn't like your regular press. It is a method of straightening the hair to make natural unrelaxed hair look as if it has been related. This method also allows the hair to flow freely instead of looking stiff and glued to your head! NO grease and NO  hot comb is used. When done correctly, your hair should have a silky soft look and feel.

Question 3: Can you Silk Press any texture hair?

YES!! That's the great part. A silk press can make any type of hair texture look like it has been freshly relaxed.

Question 4: How long does it last?

It normally lasts for two weeks. IT can sometimes last much longer as long as the hair hasn't been wet down. If the hair comes into any contact with moisture from water, humidity or sweat, it will begin to convert back to its natural curl.

Question 5: Is there any product that I can use to make my Silk Press last longer?

Unfortunately not. Because the silk press is temporary, it has to go back to its natural curl. The silk press only manipulates the hair temporarily to make it straight.

Question 6: Can your hair get damaged if pressed too much?

Most stylists will tell you no, this will not damage your hair if done too much, and I do agree. But what most fail to tell you is that the hair can become trained to be straight. In other words, you can get heat damage causing the ends of your hair to lose its natural curl. This can be easily fixed with a trim!

Question 7: How do you maintain a silk press?

You must wrap your hair every single night. There is no need for any oil or spray every day. IT is ok to use two (2) drops of oil in the palm of your hand, like L'Oreal Professionel's Mythic Oil, and run it through the hair every once in a while.

I hope this was helpful! Please feel free to contact us for any questions that were not answered here!
